BHS Building Goals 08-09
Bolivar High School 2008-2009 Goals 1.  Maintain a persistence to graduation rate of 91% or higher for the 08-09 school year.
  • Increase the level of participation in activities by all students from 81% to 84% by the end of the 08-09 school year.
    • Implement Missouri Options Program.
    • Increase students’ awareness of opportunities at BHS.
      • Presentation to 8th grade students during spring semester
      • Freshman Orientation Day in May
      • Freshman Parent Orientation Night in May
      • Freshman Mentor Program
      • Activity Fair for all students in the fall
      • List of activities/sponsors on BHS web page
      • New student survey

  • Reduce percentage of students on the D and F list to 20% by May 2009.
    • Continue Freshman Mentoring Program.
    • Implement 9-12 Guided Study Program.
    • Implement 10-12 Privilege System.
    • Restructure how students are assigned during Liberator Time.
    • Research and implement (during 2nd semester) a system for earning parking privileges (based on grades).
 2.     Increase the attendance percentage from 91.6% to 92.7% or greater for the 08-09 school year.
  • Continue the District Attendance Policy.
  • Continue Senior Privilege time as an attendance incentive.
  • Continue Freshman Mentoring Program.
  • Continue classroom and department attendance incentives.
  • Continue Tardy Sweep Program.
  • Continue attendance drawing at end of each semester.
  • Research possibility of students being excused from finals based on good attendance.
 3.   Meet all AYP proficiency targets for 08-09 school year.
  • Implement an End-of-Course Exam improvement plan according to PLC Team SMART Goals.
  • Continue common assessment program and implement proficiency targets for all courses taught by more than one teacher.
  • Research adding remediation courses in math and English (for freshmen).
  • Implement an End-of-Course Exam Incentive Card Program.
 4.   Increase the average ACT composite score to at least 23 over the next three years.
  • Bolivar High School will host a workshop for students to improve their ACT scores.
  • Analyze ACT data to determine areas of weakness.
  • Mail information about the ACT study sessions to juniors and seniors.
  • Continue ACT prep semester course.
  • Offer ACT evening study once a month.
  • 10th graders will take the PLAN test, which predicts how students will score on the ACT. Results will be analyzed for areas of weakness.
  • Distribute to faculty and students “Standards for Transition” chart, which describes the skills and knowledge associated with the ACT.
  • Math and communication arts teachers will incorporate strategies to improve students’ ability to perform well on tests.
  • Using data from ACT practice question results, math and communication arts teachers will develop additional strategies based on areas identified as strengths and weaknesses.
  • Students will take a baseline reading test to determine their reading level. Communication arts will analyze results and develop strategies to meet weaknesses.
