Learning for Life

Senate Bill 638 (2016) required the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to create a website about the trauma-informed schools initiative that includes information for schools and parents regarding the trauma-informed approach and a guide for schools on how to become trauma-informed schools. This new law also requires us share that website with our families.  The link to the newly developed website is: http://motraumaschools.com.

A link to the website is also available under Parent Links.

Text alerts added to School Messenger

Monday, October 10, 2016 3:51pm

Bolivar Schools is adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the system we use now for phone calls and emails. SchoolMessenger purchased SchoolReach last year and over spring break the district moved to SchoolMessenger.

To remain compliant with FCC and TCPA guidelines, School Messenger requires individuals to "opt-in" for text messages alerts from School Messenger.

Parents can easily opt-in by simply sending “Y” (or “Yes”), via text message, to our SchoolMessenger Short Code number (67587).

The wireless number(s) must be in the SchoolMessenger database associated with a student; these numbers are updated nightly. If a recipient’s number SMS Text number is changed, or a new number added, in our database, the new number will automatically be sent an Opt-In message.

To change your contact number, please contact Katie Duncan at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. While texting is now an option, the district will continue to utilize voice messages as well as text alerts.

Bolivar Schools volunteer background process

Friday, March 11, 2016 10:12am

Any Bolivar R-1 School District parent or volunteer in a position where they may be left alone with a single child or small groups of children – such as a Watch Dog Dad, Liberator mentors, classroom volunteer, field trip chaperon, etc. - must have a cleared background check through the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry.

There are three ways to complete the process.

1.       ONLINE: Please go to www.health.mo.gov/safety/fcsr to register. There is a one-time fee of $14.25 to complete the background check. Print a copy of your receipt along with the Background Check Permission Form, and bring to the school to be reimbursed.

2.       PAPER/PENCIL: Complete a paper copy of the Background Check Form (WORKER REGISTRATION) with an attached copy of your social security card and submit to Central Office at 524 W. Madison, Bolivar. The district will submit your form to the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry.  Please note: The mailed version will take 4 to 6 weeks to receive results back.

3.       ALREADY HAVE A CHECK ON FILE? Visit www.health.mo.gov/safety/fcsr  and click on “Is a Person Registered” tab to check. If you are, complete the Background Check Permission Form.  This will allow the school district to access your results if you have had a prior background check, and to allow us to update our records.

For more information, contact Central Office at 417-326-5291 or your child’s building.
