Governors Tree Lighting

Governors Tree Lighting
Governors Tree LightingJAG students were given a once in a lifetime chance on November 30 as they were invited to participate in the Christmas tree lighting at the Governor's Mansion. First Lady Parson invited JAG students to compete in an essay contest entitled "WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD CITIZEN AND HOW WILL JAG HELP YOU DEVELOP THOSE TRAITS?" One student from each JAG Organization was chosen to attend the ceremony.

Students were greeted by the Governor and First Lady, enjoyed a hot chocolate and cookie reception, were given a private tour of the entire Mansion - even the private living areas. The Governor and First Lady addressed the students with personal stories of struggles and success, encouragement, as well as congratulations for winning the essay contest for their schools followed by pictures with the group and individuals. JAG students and Specialists enjoyed an Italian dinner at Madison's Cafe then returned to the Mansion for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. JAG gathered on the front steps of the Mansion with the Governor and First Lady, counted down, and cheered as the Governor flipped the switch to light the tree.

It was an amazing day from start to finish - a memory and experience that is once in a lifetime.
